What happened
During the approach phase to White Plains-Westchester County Airport, the flight crew identified an unsafe indication regarding the left main landing gear. In an attempt to rectify the issue, the crew performed a gear cycle to ensure proper deployment. Following this procedure, the crew coordinated with Air Traffic Control to execute a low pass over the runway to visually verify the status of the landing gear.
Shortly after the low pass, the aircraft attempted a landing at the airport. Upon touchdown, the left main gear collapsed, causing the aircraft to sustain heavy damage. Despite the impact, all four occupants were able to exit the aircraft uninjured. The aircraft was subsequently determined to be a total loss, being damaged beyond repair.
Findings
- The crew attempted to troubleshoot the landing gear indication via a gear cycle and a low pass.
- The structural failure of the landing gear occurred during the landing phase.
