What happened
While performing a takeoff roll on runway 06 at Moscow-Vnukovo Airport, a three-engine aircraft struck a snowplow. The collision occurred when the left wing of the plane made contact with the wing of the maintenance vehicle. Following the impact, the aircraft lost control, rolled over, and ended up inverted in a fire.
There were four fatalities among the occupants of the aircraft, including the crew and one passenger. The driver of the snow-clearing vehicle sustained minor injuries during the incident. At the time of the accident, visibility on the runway was significantly reduced, with the Runway Visual Range (RVR) estimated at only 350 meters because of heavy fog.
Findings
- Low visibility conditions due to fog, with an RVR of 350 meters.
