What happened
On Wednesday, June 13, at 08:30, a Dyn’ Aéro MCR 01 amateur-built aircraft, registered F-PFSB, was preparing for a cross-country flight from Villerupt Rédange to Lyon Bron. The pilot, a 57-year-old individual with a PPL(A) held since 1987, intended to perform the flight as a private venture.
During the takeoff roll on runway 14, the pilot applied power normally. However, after approximately 400 meters of ground roll and reaching a speed of roughly 115 km/h, the aircraft failed to climb as expected. Under normal operating conditions, the pilot noted the aircraft typically rotates at 105 km/h within a distance of 300 to 350 meters. Instead, the aircraft failed to gain altitude and entered a stall, leading to a violent impact with the ground that caused the aircraft to capsize. There were two persons on board, and the pilot sustained injuries.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the configuration of the aircraft and the pilot's pre-flight procedures. Investigators found that the flaps were in the retracted position at the time of the accident. Furthermore, the investigation established that the aircraft was operating outside of its permitted weight and balance limits, as no weight and balance calculation had been performed prior to departure.
Regarding cockpit procedures, the pilot stated that he had performed his pre-flight checks mentally rather than using a physical checklist. He noted that the checklist provided by the previous owner was difficult to read and that he had intended to draft a new one. It was also noted that the aircraft was not equipped with a stall warning device.
