What happened
During a delivery flight traveling from Germany to Colombia via Iceland and Canada, a twin-engine aircraft experienced a mechanical failure. The flight, which included one pilot and one passenger, was operating the leg between Reykjavik and Goose Bay when the right engine ceased functioning approximately 20 minutes after departure.
Following the engine failure, the pilot attempted to restart the engine without success. Consequently, an emergency diversion to Nuuk was initiated. While performing the short final approach at an altitude of roughly 100 meters, the aircraft began a right-hand turn and collided with the terrain. The force of the impact caused the undercarriage to detach from the airframe, and the wreckage eventually came to a stop against an embankment. The incident resulted in two injuries (both occupants sustained slight injuries) and the twin-engine aircraft was declared a total loss.
Findings
- The right engine failed during the flight leg from Reykjavik to Goose Bay.
- The aircraft entered a right turn and struck the ground during the final approach phase.
