What happened
During a local flight test at Gavião Peixoto-Embraer Unidade Airport, a prototype aircraft operated under the Brazilian Air Force livery experienced a runway excursion. The flight was being conducted to perform several circuits of the airfield. Upon completing the maneuvers, the crew performed a landing on runway 20.
Following the touchdown, the aircraft failed to decelerate sufficiently to remain within the paved surface. As the plane overran the end of the runway, it transitioned onto soft ground. The impact with the terrain caused the aircraft to lose its undercarriage. The vehicle eventually came to a stop a short distance from the runway exit. There were no injuries reported among the three crew members involved in the incident.
Findings
- The aircraft was unable to stop within the available runway length.
- The aircraft overran the runway and encountered soft ground.
- The structural failure of the landing gear occurred due to contact with the unpaved terrain.
