What happened
On 9 August 2009, a Falco F8L, registration G-REEC, was conducting a private flight when it arrived at Compton Abbas Airfield in Dorset. During the approach to runway 08, the aircraft performed a landing on the grass runway without the landing gear being extended. The impact of the gear-up landing caused damage to the propeller, the flaps, and the underside of the aircraft. There were two people on board, including the pilot, and no injuries were reported following the event.
The investigation
Following the incident, the AAIB examined the circumstances surrounding the landing. The investigation was based on the aircraft accident report form submitted by the pilot. The examination focused on the configuration of the aircraft during its final approach and the sequence of events leading to the contact with the runway surface.
