What happened
On June 30, 2016, a Beechcraft A36, registration PT-IJD, was performing local flight training maneuvers at the Arthur Siqueira State Aerodrome (SBBP) in Bragança Paulista, Brazil. The flight, which included the pilot and two passengers, was conducting a series of touch-and-go landings.
During the third touch-and-go attempt, the pilot experienced a sudden loss of engine power. In response to the power loss, the pilot executed a landing on the remaining runway length. However, the landing gear had not been extended prior to touchdown. The aircraft contacted the runway with the gear retracted and traveled approximately 200 meters before coming to a complete stop. The aircraft sustained light damage, and all three occupants escaped the incident without injury.
The investigation
CENIPA's investigation confirmed that the pilot held valid medical and flight certifications and possessed the necessary experience for the flight type. The aircraft was within weight and balance limits and held a valid Certificate of Airworthiness. However, investigators noted that the maintenance logs for the airframe, engine, and propeller were not up to date.
Due to the fact that the investigation did not yield new elements for the prevention of future accidents, CENIPA elected to terminate the proceedings, as the contributing factors were already well-understood within the safety system.
