What happened
On November 25, 2013, an Embraer EMB 810-C, registration PT-RDP, was performing a scheduled air taxi flight from Ji-Paraná to Cacoal, Rondônia, to transport mail. During the short final approach to Cacoal Aerodrome (SSKW), the crew failed to extend the landing gear. The aircraft subsequently touched down on the center of the runway with the gear retracted. The impact caused the aircraft to come to a stop on the runway, resulting in substantial damage to the engines and both propellers.
The investigation
CENIPA's investigation confirmed that the crew members were fully qualified, holding valid medical and technical certificates, and possessed sufficient experience for the mission. The aircraft's airworthiness and registration documentation were also found to be in compliance with ANAC regulations. The investigation established that the crew realized the landing gear was up only when the warning alarm sounded; however, because the throttles had already been reduced to idle, there was insufficient time to perform corrective maneuvers to extend the gear before touchdown.
Findings
- Lack of effective cockpit coordination.
- Pilot oversight regarding the landing gear extension sequence.
