What happened
On April 19, 2011, at approximately 20:00 UTC, a Cessna 210L, registration PR-LII, was involved in a ground excursion at the Jataí Airport (SWJW) in Jataí, Goiás. Following the landing, the pilot lost control of the aircraft, causing it to collide with concrete posts located alongside the runway.
There were two occupants on board the aircraft, both of whom escaped the incident without injuries. While the impact caused substantial damage to the aircraft, no fatalities or injuries were reported.
The investigation
The investigation by SERIPA VI faced significant challenges due to a lack of immediate reporting. The aircraft operator, the pilot, and the Jataí airport administration failed to notify the investigation agency of the occurrence. Authorities only became aware of the incident 20 days later through information provided by third parties.
Upon attempting to investigate, the SERIPA VI team was unable to locate the aircraft or the pilot, as the aircraft's subsequent destination was unknown. However, investigators were able to review photographs of the aircraft that confirmed extensive damage. The inspected areas showed substantial damage to the flaps, the left elevator, the left horizontal stabilizer, the leading edge of the right wing, the propeller, and the engine.
