What happened
On 10 July 1999, a Jodel DR105A, registration G-AXLS, was conducting a private flight when it was involved in an accident at Manor Farm, Wiltshire. During the approach to Runway 10, which consists of a 645-metre grass surface, the pilot experienced a difficult landing. The aircraft made a heavy touchdown, resulting in a bounce. Following this, the aircraft veered toward the right side of the runway before swinging back toward the left. During this uncontrolled movement, the aircraft struck a parked Cessna 182 that was positioned at a right angle to the landing area. There were no fatalities and no injuries to the pilot or the passenger on board.
The investigation
The investigation was based on the aircraft accident report form provided by the pilot. Investigators examined the sequence of the landing and the positioning of the parked aircraft. The weather conditions at the time of the incident were reported as good, with surface winds estimated at 030°/7 to 10 knots. The investigation confirmed that the aircraft sustained damage to its fuselage, tail, and right wing, while the parked Cessna 182 also incurred damage during the collision.
