What happened
On May 11, 2023, a Hawker 900 XP, registration PK-LRU, was performing an unscheduled passenger flight from Jakarta to Morowali Airport in Central Sulawesi. The flight crew, which included two pilots, an engineer, and an in-flight service person, had planned a visual approach for Runway 23.
Upon touchdown, the crew and passengers noticed the aircraft tilting toward the right side. The pilots noted that this sensation was consistent with previous experiences involving a depleted right main landing gear strut. As the aircraft continued its landing roll, the pilot flying attempted to use the brakes and deploy the thrust reversers to slow the jet. However, the thrust reverser levers failed to deploy, preventing the necessary deceleration.
Unable to slow the aircraft effectively, the jet exited the runway at the end of Runway 23 and came to a stop approximately 210 meters past the threshold after impacting an embankment. During the emergency shutdown, the crew found that the right high-pressure cock lever was stuck. Despite the impact, all occupants—including four passengers—evacuated the aircraft safely, though the pilot and engineer sustained minor injuries.
The investigation
The KNKT examined the wreckage and flight data, noting that the aircraft's flaps were set to 45 and the engine thrust reverser doors were found in the closed position. Investigators identified tire marks on the runway extending to the end of the pavement. The investigation also reviewed maintenance logs, which revealed that the aircraft's maintenance records had documented three previous pilot reports regarding a depleted right main landing gear strut since October 2022.
