What happened
On June 26, 1988, a light aircraft with registration F-GFKC was involved in an accident during flight. While operating in the region, the aircraft's trajectory led to a collision with vegetation. The impact was severe enough to cause significant damage to the surrounding environment, specifically resulting in the cutting or shearing of trees along the aircraft's path.
The investigation
Investigators from the BEA examined the flight path and the physical evidence at the scene. The investigation utilized radar trajectory data to reconstruct the aircraft's movement prior to the impact. Furthermore, the investigation team analyzed photographic evidence of the wreckage site, specifically focusing on the pattern of tree damage caused by the aircraft's passage through the canopy. The analysis of the impact site confirmed that the aircraft's flight path intersected directly with the tree line, leading to the structural damage observed in the vegetation.
