What happened
During an approach to Charallave-Óscar Machado Zuloaga Airport, the flight crew identified mechanical issues, specifically involving the thrust reversers, and issued an emergency declaration. In response to these technical difficulties, the captain performed a go-around maneuver and flew a circuit south of the airfield.
While attempting a second approach, the aircraft type deviated from the intended flight path toward the south. The descent continued until the plane struck the summit of a hill situated approximately 8 km south of the airport. The impact and a subsequent fire caused the total destruction of the aircraft. There were six fatalities among the occupants of the plane.
