What happened
On 7 September 2012, a Mainair Blade, registration G-MYYG, was completing a local private flight when it approached Runway 22 at Cromer (Northrepps) Airfield. During the landing sequence, the aircraft touched down on the runway. Shortly after the initial contact, the left wheel of the aircraft lifted from the surface. This caused the aircraft to roll toward the right side. The aircraft eventually came to a stop approximately 30 metres further down the runway in an inverted position. The impact resulted in the occupants being trapped inside the cockpit, though there were no injuries reported for the pilot or the passenger.
The investigation
Investigators examined the aircraft and the circumstances surrounding the landing. The investigation established that the aircraft sustained extensive damage to its pylon and wing. Additionally, the single Rotax 462 piston engine suffered shock-loading as a result of the accident. Environmental conditions at the time of the incident included a light wind from 230° at 3 knots.
