What happened
On December 13, 2009, an SM-92T, registration RA-0257G, was scheduled to perform parachute jumps within training zone No. 4 at altitudes up to 4,000 meters near the Chelyabinsk (Kalachevo) aerodrome. The flight plan had been submitted to air traffic control authorities the previous day via the Chelyabinsk (Shagol) communications center.
In the early hours of the morning, the flight crew arrived at the aerodrome to begin preparations. The pilot-in-command reviewed the weather forecasts for the Chelyabinsk (Balandino) area and the current local conditions at Kalachevo, subsequently signing the flight decision log. After receiving necessary airspace clearance for visual flight rules (VFR) operations, the pilot underwent a medical examination.
Between 04:10 and 04:20, the pilot performed a pre-flight inspection and systems check of the SM-92T. Flight operations for the operator UTs AON "Chelavia" commenced at 04:21. At 05:47, the air traffic controller authorized engine start. Following engine warm-up and systems verification, the aircraft was loaded with 7 parachutists, including one tandem passenger seated in the area where the right pilot seat had been removed.
At 05:57, the crew received clearance for taxiing and subsequent takeoff. The takeoff roll began at 05:59:38. The aircraft began its ascent immediately following departure from the runway.
