What happened
On January 3, 2015, an An-26B, registration RA-26082, was involved in an accident during the takeoff phase at Magadan (Sokol) Airport. The aircraft, operated by KAPO Avia, was performing a multi-leg transport mission involving the movement of aviation equipment along a route spanning Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Magadan, Mirny, Krasnoyarsk, and Nizhnevartovsk.
The flight originated from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (Yelizovo) at 09:18 local time on January 3, 2015. On board were 4 crew members and 6 passengers, consisting of a reserve crew and technical personnel. After a flight duration of approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, the aircraft landed at Magadan (Sokol) at 23:48 local time for the purpose of refueling. Following the refueling process, the aircraft's total fuel load was 5,500 kg. At the time of the incident, the takeoff mass was 22,120 kg with a center of gravity of 24.2%, both of which were within the operational limits specified in the aircraft's flight manual.
The investigation
The investigation reviewed the flight planning and crew preparation processes. Records indicate that flight preparations for the mission were conducted on December 30, 2014, under the supervision of the airline's management. The specific pre-flight preparation for the Magadan to Mirny leg was conducted by the pilot-in-command on January 2, 2015, at Yelizovo Airport. Medical clearance for the crew was also verified at Yelizovo prior to the commencement of the flight operations.
