What happened
On May 31, 2010, at approximately 16:38 UTC, an S-1 Sintel, registration RA-0613G, was conducting flight tests near Malinki in the Mikhailovsky District of the Ryazan Oblast. The aircraft, owned by a private individual, was being flown to verify the operational stability and control of newly installed agricultural spraying equipment. The flight departed from a dirt road near the village of Malaya Doroginka.
While performing a turn at a low altitude near a forested area, the aircraft struck trees and subsequently impacted the ground. The accident occurred at an absolute altitude of 205 meters in a hilly landscape characterized by ravines and scattered woodland. The crash resulted in one fatality (the pilot) and significant damage to the aircraft.
The investigation
Preliminary findings indicated that the pilot had not undergone a pre-flight medical examination, and no weather information had been requested prior to the flight. Furthermore, no application for the use of airspace had been submitted to the Air Traffic Management Center. While the owner stated that pre-flight preparations were completed one hour before the mission, the pilot had not performed preliminary flight preparations. The weather conditions at the time of the accident were reported as simple/clear.
