During the approach to runway 04 at Kazachinskoe, the crew identified fog in the area of the landing site. After failing to establish visual contact with the runway or ground landmarks, the captain initiated a go-around. A second approach to runway 04 was attempted, but the crew aborted that attempt as well due to an unsuitable aircraft position.

The collision occurred 3.1 km from the threshold of runway 22, in an azimuth of 12 degrees.
