What happened
On October 16, 2016, a flight was scheduled to take place near the Aerograd Mozhaisky airfield in the Moscow region. The flight was part of a pre-purchased aerobatic experience. At approximately 09:59 local time, the pilot departed from the airfield with a passenger on board the Pioneer-3ly0.
While flying at an altitude of between 18 and 19 meters, the aircraft struck the wires of the Shevardino–Glyadkovskaya 35 kV power line between supports number 157 and 158. The impact caused the power line to trip, which was recorded by the regional electrical grid at 13:24 local time. The collision caused damage to the aircraft's propeller, rendering the flight impossible to continue.
Findings
- The pilot did not fully study the intended flight area, specifically failing to identify the location of obstacles and the regulations regarding flying near high-voltage power lines.
