On August 24, 2016, a Tupolev Tu-204S, registration RA-64021, was performing flight TUП9625 from Vnukovo to Norilsk to transport commercial cargo. The flight crew included the captain, second pilot, flight engineer, and senior flight operator. Pre-flight preparations had commenced at Vnukovo airport at 23:15 on August 23, 2016, following a medical check and weather briefing.
The aircraft experienced a landing with an overload of at least 2.3 units, which resulted in the aircraft separating from the runway at a height of 1.8 meters. A subsequent second landing occurred with an overload of at least 3.056 units, causing damage to the aircraft's structure. No injuries or fatalities were reported during the event.
Investigation findings indicated that the approach speed exceeded the recommended values in the aircraft's Flight Manual. Additionally, the crew encountered wind shear during the landing phase, for which there was no available detection equipment on the aircraft or at the airfield to provide low-altitude warnings.
Technical factors included a decrease in aerodynamic properties when wing flaps were extended, likely due to residual wing deformations from previous overloads. During the flight, a persistent 'LANDING GEAR DOWN' signal remained active after separation from the runway. When the flight control unit was moved to the manual position, air brakes and spoilers deployed, reducing lift by 77% of the aircraft's mass.
