What happened
On June 7, 2015, an aircraft identified as a Zodiac 650 BK, registration RA-2352G, was involved in an incident at the Georgievsk 1 (Nezlobnaya) landing strip in the Georgievsk district of the Stavropol Krai. The aircraft was being operated by the owner of the vessel, who had an arrangement with the board of the Southern Aviation Center regional organization to use the facility for parking and maintenance.
Prior to the incident, the owner had been performing adjustments on the aircraft's Subaru automobile engine to address an issue where engine RPM would spontaneously drop from operational levels to idle. The owner had permission to use the runway specifically to test the engine's performance. On the morning of the accident, the owner taxied the aircraft onto the runway to conduct engine tests via repeated acceleration and braking runs. During these maneuvers, the aircraft unexpectedly lifted off the ground.
The investigation
Investigations revealed that the owner had been using the landing strip to evaluate the engine's stability following recent mechanical adjustments. The aircraft was being operated without an instructor present. The testing involved taxiing along the runway, which has a magnetic course of 83 degrees, with the wing flaps in the retracted position. The unexpected takeoff occurred while the pilot was performing these engine run-up procedures.
