Pegasus Quik excursion during training landing at Rosall Field

Casualties unknown • Rosall Field, Cockerham, Lancashire, GB

A Pegasus Quik aircraft veered off the runway and rolled onto its wing during a training flight in Lancashire, resulting in structural damage but no injuries.

What happened

On 5 June 2009, a Pegasus Quik, registration G-MAXS, was conducting a training flight for conversion to a flex-wing aircraft at Rosall Field, Cockerham, Lancashire. The flight, which included both a pilot and an instructor, proceeded normally through the local flight and the approach to Runway 02 under favorable weather conditions.

During the landing roll, approximately 5 to 10 metres after touchdown, the aircraft began an uncommanded turn to the right. The crew attempted to steer the aircraft back onto the runway, but these efforts were unsuccessful. The aircraft continued to turn through 180 degrees, eventually rolling to its left. This motion caused the left wing to strike the ground at a low speed. The aircraft came to a stop, and while both occupants exited the aircraft without injury, the impact caused damage to a propeller blade, the kingpost, and the hangbracket.
