What happened
On 19 September 2004, a Piper PA-28-180 Cherokee, registration G-NINC, was conducting a local area flight. Following this flight, the pilot returned to Old Buckenham Airfield in Norfolk to perform a sequence of touch and go landings.
The investigation
The investigation into the initial report identified a discrepancy regarding the runway surface used during the maneuvers. While the original report stated that the landings were being performed on a grass runway (Runway 25), subsequent verification established that the runway in use was actually a tarmac surface.
Findings
- The initial documentation incorrectly identified the runway surface as grass.
- The actual landing surface for the touch and go operations was the tarmac runway.
