What happened
A geophysical mission operating over the Coromoro Region in Santander, Colombia, ended in a fatal accident when a twin engine aircraft struck a mountain slope. The flight departed from Bucaramanga-Palonegro Airport at 08:04 local time. The final communication from the pilot was received at 10:00 local time.
Following the loss of contact, search efforts located the wreckage two days later. The debris field was situated at an altitude of 4,500 metres, approximately 98 km south of Bucaramanga. The impact caused the aircraft to disintegrate upon hitting the terrain. There were two fatalities among the occupants, which included the pilot and one passenger.
Findings
At the time of the accident, the aircraft was operating in marginal weather conditions characterized by low cloud cover. The aircraft struck the side of a mountain during its mission flight phase.
