On March 19, 1996, at approximately 08:30, a Piper PA-25-260 agricultural aircraft, registered as PT-WDF, was performing a takeoff roll for a crop-spraying mission near Ana Dias, Peruíbl, Brazil. During the takeoff roll, after the tail had been lifted, the pilot experienced a loss of engine power.

Believing there was insufficient runway to safely abort the takeoff, the pilot continued the takeoff attempt. The aircraft failed to gain sufficient altitude and subsequently struck a utility pole located alongside a railway track. Following the collision, the aircraft plummeted into a banana plantation. The pilot sustained minor injuries, while the aircraft suffered major damage.
