What happened
On 14 July 2013, a Rans S6-ES aircraft, registration G-BYMV, was conducting a routine private flight near Stoke Golding Airfield in Leicestershire. The flight, which included the pilot and one passenger, was occurring in favorable weather conditions with clear skies and light winds.
As the aircraft joined the landing circuit, it began a descent that deviated from the standard runway path. Witnesses observed the aircraft turning toward a mown grass strip located north of the airfield, which may have been mistaken for the actual runway. During this phase of the flight, the pilot transmitted a radio call that appeared to indicate he was lining up for a runway, though the path was incorrect.
As the aircraft approached the ground, it entered a stall followed by an incipient spin. The aircraft struck the ground in a steep, nose-down attitude at a relatively low speed. The impact resulted in two fatalities and the total destruction of the aircraft.
