What happened

On 23 August 2000, a Rans S6-ESD XL, registration G-MZDG, was conducting a private flight from Manchester (Barton) Airfield. The flight concluded with an approach to Runway 07 at the Ince microlight airstrip in Cheshire. At the time of the incident, weather conditions were favorable, with a light surface wind estimated at 090°/5 kt.

During the landing phase, the pilot touched down too far down the 430-metre grass runway. Consequently, the aircraft was unable to decelerate sufficiently before reaching the end of the strip, resulting in the aircraft striking a drainage ditch. There were no injuries to the pilot or the single passenger on board, though the aircraft sustained damage to its cockpit cage and landing gear.
