What happened
On September 3, 2022, at approximately 17:58 UTC, a Boeing 737 MAX 8, registered as TC-MKC, was involved in a ground collision at Zurich Airport (LSZH). The aircraft, operated by Corendon Airlines on a scheduled commercial flight from Zurich to Antalya, was in the process of taxiing when it struck a ground vehicle.
The investigation
The Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board (SUST) examined the circumstances surrounding the movement of the aircraft and the positioning of ground equipment. The investigation focused on the interaction between the aircraft and a Goldhofer AST-2R 210 tug, which was being operated by Swissport International Ltd at the time of the incident.
Findings
Preliminary findings indicate that the collision occurred specifically during the taxiing phase of the aircraft's departure sequence. The aircraft struck the aircraft tug while moving toward the runway. There were no injuries reported among the two crew members or the 114 passengers on board, and no third-party injuries were recorded.
