What happened
On July 8, 2018, at approximately 14:00 local time, a Schempp-Hirth Discus-2cT glider, registered as HB-2432, was involved in a fatal accident in the Mettligrat area of Valais, Switzerland. The aircraft, operated for private purposes under Visual Flight Rules (VFR), had departed from Münster Airport (LSPU) with the intention of returning to the same airfield. During the flight, the glider collided with the terrain.
The investigation
The Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board (SUST) conducted an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the impact. The investigation focused on the flight path and the sequence of events leading to the contact with the ground. The aircraft was destroyed in the crash, and the pilot sustained fatal injuries.
