What happened
On September 24, 1963, a Klemm Kl-107 B, registration HB-UXK, was involved in a ground collision at the Laupheim airfield in Baden-Württemberg, West Germany. While the aircraft was taxiing, it struck a stationary passenger car located on the airfield.
The investigation
The Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board reviewed findings provided by the German Federal Aviation Office (Luftfahrt-Bundesamt). The investigation focused on the circumstances surrounding the movement of the aircraft and the interaction with the vehicle on the ground. The inquiry established that the collision resulted from the pilot's lack of sufficient attention to the airfield surroundings and a lack of adequate information regarding specific local ground conditions.
Findings
- The primary cause of the collision was insufficient attention by the pilot during the taxiing phase.
- The pilot had not been properly briefed on the particular ground conditions or obstacles present at the airfield.
- The collision caused damage to both the Klemm Kl-107 B and the stationary car, though there were no injuries to any persons involved.
