What happened
On September 9, 2023, at 16:12 local time, a DynAero MCR-4S aircraft, registered F-PIMS, crashed while performing a visual flight rules (VFR) flight. The aircraft was operating a private flight from Bern Airport (LSZB) to Grenchen Airport (LSZG). During the final approach to runway 06, the light aircraft struck a meadow at a low altitude. The impact resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft. There were two fatalities among the occupants, consisting of the pilot and one passenger. No third-party injuries were reported, though minor property damage occurred on the ground.
The investigation
The Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board (SUST) initiated an investigation into the occurrence. The preliminary investigation focused on the flight path and the circumstances surrounding the aircraft's descent during the approach phase. Investigators examined the aircraft's impact with the terrain and the lack of post-crash fire at the site.
