What happened
On November 23, 2020, at approximately 14:35, a Beechcraft BE200, registration HB-GJM, was performing a commercial flight under instrument flight rules (IFR) at Sion Airport (LSGS). The aircraft, operated by Air-Glaciers SA, was conducting a local flight departing from and returning to Sion. During the landing phase, the aircraft's nose landing gear failed to fully extend, resulting in a landing with the gear partially deployed.
The investigation
The Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board (SUST) opened an investigation into the serious incident on December 11, 2020. Investigators examined the circumstances surrounding the gear malfunction and the operational conditions at the time of the event. The investigation focused on whether technical, operational, or organizational failures contributed to the landing gear's failure to deploy correctly.
Findings
The investigation concluded that the incident was not caused by any technical, operational, organizational, or systemic factors. Because the investigation revealed no underlying causes that could contribute to future accident prevention, the inquiry was closed. The aircraft sustained slight damage as a result of the landing, but there were no injuries to the crew and no damage to persons or property on the ground.
