What happened
On December 29, 1963, a Cessna 140, registration HB-CAG, was involved in an incident during its landing roll at Samedan Airport in the canton of Graubünden. The aircraft, occupied by a flight instructor and a student pilot, was performing a routine operation when it began to veer off course during the rollout phase of the landing.
The investigation
The investigation into the event focused on the sequence of events following the touchdown. Investigators established that as the aircraft was decelerating on the runway, it experienced an uncontrolled excursion. The physical movement of the aircraft resulted in it turning upside down.
Findings
Technical analysis of the incident suggests that the primary cause of the excursion was heavy braking applied by one of the two occupants. This intense braking pressure likely induced the loss of directional control, leading to the aircraft's capsize. There were no injuries reported among the occupants, though the aircraft sustained damage during the event.
