What happened
On November 8, 2024, at approximately 16:10 local time, a Diamond DV 20, registration HB-SDI, was conducting a flight training mission departing from and returning to Ecuvillens Aerodrome (LSGE). During the course of the instructional flight, the crew, consisting of one instructor and one student, identified a sudden loss of engine power. In response to the mechanical issue, the crew executed an emergency landing at the airfield. There were no injuries to the occupants or third parties, and no damage was reported to the aircraft or ground infrastructure.
The investigation
The Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board (SUST) has opened an inquiry into the incident. The preliminary investigation focused on the circumstances surrounding the power loss during the VFR instructional flight and the subsequent emergency procedures performed by the crew.
