What happened
On August 17, 2014, at approximately 12:30 local time, a collision occurred during taxiing operations at the Bressaucourt aerodrome (LSZQ). A Cessna 172S, registration HB-CZO, was being operated for private VFR flight. While maneuvering on the tarmac, the aircraft entered a taxiway located between a fuel column and a parked Piper Comanche 24-260, registration HB-PNZ.
During this movement, the right wingtip of the HB-CZO struck the vertical stabilizer of the stationary HB-PNZ. The pilot of the HB-CZO was the sole occupant and remained uninjured. The impact resulted in no injuries to any persons involved in the incident.
The investigation
Investigators examined the sequence of events on the apron, noting that an aerodrome staff member wearing a high-visibility vest was present on the tarmac to coordinate movements within the parking area. The investigation focused on the path taken by the aircraft and the communication or signaling present at the time of the movement.
Findings
- The collision was caused by a misunderstanding regarding ground movement instructions or coordination.
- The HB-CZO entered a taxi lane that was not clear of the parked aircraft.
- The HB-CZO sustained paint transfer from the vertical stabilizer of the HB-PNZ on its right wingtip.
- The HB-PNZ sustained structural deformation to its vertical stabilizer.
