What happened
On June 1, 2011, a Cessna T210L, registration TG-VTO, was involved in an accident at the south side of runway 01 at La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala City. During the flight operations, the aircraft exited the runway environment.
The investigation
The investigation conducted by the Unidad de Investigación de Accidentes (UIA) of the DGAC examined the aircraft's maintenance history, meteorological conditions, and the operational environment. Records indicated that the aircraft had undergone a 100-hour/annual inspection in September 2010, which included work on the engine, propeller, and landing gear. Meteorological data from the La Aurora station for the morning of the accident showed winds blowing from the North at speeds between 21 and 34 km/h, with visibility exceeding 10 km and partly to mostly cloudy skies.
Findings
- The aircraft was operating at La Aurora International Airport under North winds.
- Maintenance logs showed recent inspections and component replacements, including brake discs and landing gear actuators.
- The investigation established that the aircraft exited the runway surface during its operations.
