What happened
On October 18, 2005, at 12:20 UTC, a Cessna 182R, registration OK-LKP, operated by AEROTAXI, s.r.o., was involved in an accident at Kbely Airport (LKKB). The flight was being conducted under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) from Letňany (LKKO) to Kbely.
After a successful landing on the grass runway 24, the pilot began taxiing toward the asphalt runway 24. During the transition from the grass strip to the paved surface, the pilot failed to follow instructions from the air traffic controller regarding the specific exit point. Consequently, the aircraft crossed a drainage ditch at a location not designated for exiting the grass runway. As the aircraft moved across the ditch, the propeller blades struck the asphalt runway surface. Following the impact, the engine began to run irregularly.
There were no injuries to the pilot or the passenger.
The investigation
The ÚZPLN investigation established that the aircraft's technical documentation and airworthiness were valid, with the most recent 200-hour inspection having been completed on September 8, 2005. The pilot held a valid Commercial Pilot License (CPL) and all necessary class ratings. The investigation confirmed that no technical malfunctions of the aircraft contributed to the event. Meteorological conditions at the time were favorable, with visibility exceeding 10 km and no cloud cover.
Findings
- The primary cause of the accident was the pilot's incorrect decision regarding the exit point from the grass runway to the asphalt runway 24.
- The propeller blades, nose gear, nose gear fairing, exhaust outlet, and engine mount sustained damage due to the impact with the runway surface.
- The pilot failed to adhere to the specific instructions provided by the air traffic controller regarding the transition between the grass and paved surfaces.
