What happened
On October 2, 2013, at approximately 10:45 UTC, a Cirrus SR22, registration OK-TTP, was taxiing at Česká Lípa Airport (LKLT) to refuel before a planned flight to Letňany (LKCE). After starting the engine and taxiing approximately 25 meters from its parking position in front of a hangar, the pilot initiated a left turn onto an asphalt strip.
During this maneuver, the pilot was taxiing approximately 2 meters to the left of the centerline. The pilot noticed a Moravan Z142, registration OK-NOK, parked on the grass adjacent to the asphalt strip with its engine running. Despite an attempt to brake, the left wingtip of the Cirrus SR22 struck the rotating propeller of the Z142. The pilot of the Z142 reported feeling a light impact while performing cockpit checks with the engine at 1500 RPM. There were no injuries to the crews of either aircraft.
The investigation
The ÚZPLN investigation established that the crews of both aircraft were not in communication with the AFIS controller at the time of the incident. The investigation examined the taxiing path, the positioning of the aircraft, and the adherence to airfield regulations. The investigation also noted that while the centerline on the asphalt strip was clearly marked in yellow, there was no painted taxiway guidance leading from the hangar parking area to the centerline.
Findings
- The pilot of the Cirrus SR22 failed to properly assess the situation along the intended taxi route or request ground assistance.
- The pilot of the Cirrus SR22 did not maintain a safe distance from the stationary obstacle (the Z142).
- The pilot of the Cirrus SR22 was unable to stop the aircraft in time to avoid the collision.
- The primary cause of the incident was the pilot's failure to adhere to general air traffic regulations regarding the protection of property and the observation of other aircraft traffic to avoid collisions.
- The Cirrus SR22 sustained damage to its left wingtip cap, and the Z142 sustained propeller damage.
