What happened
A commercial certificated pilot landed an unspecified aircraft on a remote area of tundra for the purpose of picking up a hunting partner. The pilot reported that the landing was performed in a northwest direction amidst gusty wind conditions.
After completing the landing, the pilot shut off the engine and prepared to exit the aircraft. While the pilot remained seated and still secured by the seat harness, a gust of wind caused the airplane to blow over onto its back. The pilot was not injured during the event.
Findings
The incident resulted in structural damage to the aircraft, specifically affecting the overhead cabin structure. Additionally, the right wing lift strut was found to be kinked. According to the Pilot/Operator report (NTSB Form 6120.1/2) submitted by the pilot, the wind velocity at the accident site was measured at 40 knots, with gusts reaching up to 50 knots.
