What happened
On March 12, 2011, a Bombardier BD100-1A10, registration N8XY (N818RC), was performing a landing on runway 35 at Iqaluit Airport (CYFB) in Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada. The flight was part of a journey originating from Long Beach Airport (Daugherty Field) in Long Beach, California, with a scheduled fuel stop at CYFB en route to Milan Linate Airport in Milan, Italy.
During the landing roll, the aircraft departed the runway to the right. The plane eventually came to a stop approximately 100 feet from the edge of the runway after encountering a snow bank. There were no injuries resulting from the incident.
The investigation
Investigators examined skid marks left by the nose wheels on the runway surface. These marks indicated that the nose gear was incorrectly orientated during the landing roll.
