On October 1, 2025, at approximately 21:56 EDT, two CRJ-900 aircraft operated by Endeavor Air collided at LaGuard and Airport (LGA) in New York. The collision involved flight 5155, a BOMBARDIER INC CL-600-2D24 with registration N902XJ, and flight 5047, a BOMBARDIER INC CL-600-2D24 with registration N480PX.
What happened
Flight 5047 arrived at LGA from Charlotte Douglas International Airport and exited runway 4 onto taxiway G. The ground controller instructed the crew to taxi via taxiway B to taxiway M and then to lane 12, which required crossing taxiway A.
Flight 5155, traveling from the gate area toward runway 13, was instructed by the ground controller to taxi via taxiways A to E, hold short of runway 4, and to "give way" to another Endeavor Air airplane at taxiway M. The crew of flight 5155 read back the instructions.
As flight 5047 turned onto taxiway M, the captain slowed the aircraft and brought it to a stop after seeing another airplane to the left. At the intersection of taxiways M and A, the right wing of flight 5155 struck the nose of flight 5047.
Among the passengers and crew, there were no fatalities, but 1 minor injury was reported involving a flight attendant on flight 5155. All other passengers and crew members were uninjured. Following the collision, all occupants were deplaned via the main cabin stairs and transported to the terminal via bus.
The investigation
NTSB investigators recovered and analyzed the cockpit voice recorders and flight data recorders from both aircraft.
Post-accident inspections revealed the following:
- N480PX sustained substantial damage to the nose and the captain's windshield.
- N902XJ sustained substantial damage to the outboard section of the right wing, including the separation of the wing tip, aileron, and outboard slat.
Interviews with the crew of flight 5155 indicated that the captain was focused on calculating performance numbers for the destination airport and was looking down into the cockpit to verify trim settings during a checklist when the collision occurred. The captain stated he did not recall the instruction to give way to the other aircraft. The crew of flight 5047 reported that the captain slowed the aircraft to turn onto taxiway M and applied the brakes immediately before the impact.
