What happened
On May 14, 2014, at approximately 1600 local time, a Cessna T206H, registered as HC-CFE, was performing a landing approach at Edmundo Carvajal Airport (SEMC) in Macas, Ecuador. The aircraft, operated by Servicio Aereo Morona, was originally scheduled to fly to Taisha Airport (SETH). During the approach, the aircraft struck power lines, causing substantial damage to the plane. At the time of the impact, smoke was reported inside the cockpit. The accident resulted in 5 serious injuries to the pilot and four passengers; there were no fatalities.
The investigation
The investigation into the accident was conducted under the jurisdiction of the Ecuadorian government through the Dirección General de Aviación Civil and the Junta Investigadora de Accidentes de la República del Ecuador.
