What happened
On September 8, 2018, a skydiver was performing their 101st jump as part of a training mission (RW3) after exiting a Cessna 206 at an altitude of 3,000 meters. Following a successful deployment and inflation of the ARROW 195ft parachute, the jumper initiated the landing sequence. The landing took place on uncultivated agricultural land located roughly 500 meters from the perimeter of the Krosno (EPKR) aerodrome. At the time of the landing, wind conditions were reported between 4-6 m/s from a direction of 290-310 degrees.
The investigation
The investigation, conducted by the operator, established that the landing occurred while the parachute was in a slight turn. The terrain at the landing site was uneven, which contributed to the impact.
Findings
- The skydiver sustained a fractured femur.
- The primary cause of the injury was landing on uneven terrain while executing a turn outside the airfield boundaries.
