What happened
On August 21, 2020, a skydiver holding a B-level qualification certificate was conducting a landing training jump from an altitude of 1,500 meters. The freefall phase and the subsequent flight under an open parachute proceeded without incident.
As the skydiver approached the landing area at the Chrcynno landing field (EPNC), the descent was not properly managed. The skydiver performed the parachute braking maneuver too late, which resulted in a landing with a slide. During the impact, the skydiver attempted to support themselves with their arms, leading to an injury to the left arm.
The investigation
The investigation was conducted by the PKBWL following a final report submitted by the user. The commission reviewed the sequence of the flight and the mechanics of the landing to determine the cause of the injury.
Findings
- The primary cause of the incident was improper landing technique, specifically the delayed braking of the parachute during the landing phase.
Safety action
- As a preventive measure, the incident was reviewed and discussed with the skydivers involved in the training.
