What happened
On July 19, 2020, two skydivers participated in a relative work (RW) formation jump from an altitude of 4,000 meters near the Piotrków Trybunalski (EPPT) airfield. Both participants were using Aerodyne Pilot 190 parachutes. The exit from the aircraft was performed correctly, and both individuals maintained stable freefall.
At approximately 1,200 meters, both skydivers deployed their main canopies. While flying on stable and properly opened canopies, the two skydivers collided at an altitude of approximately 700 meters. As a result of the impact, one skydiver became disconnected from their main canopy and was forced to deploy their reserve parachute.
One skydiver landed within the airfield perimeter and sustained no injuries. The second skydiver landed outside the airfield area and sustained bruises to the left arm and left rib area. Emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene, and the injured individual was transported to a hospital.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the sequence of events following the deployment of the main parachutes and the subsequent mid-air collision. The commission reviewed the jump profiles, the equipment used, and the maneuvers performed during the relative work formation.
