What happened
On May 11, 2019, a skydiver was performing their first jump of the 2019 season from an altitude of 1,200 meters. The deployment, separation, and flight under the parachute proceeded normally. During the descent, the skydiver initiated a landing pattern; however, the final turn was executed at an insufficient altitude. This maneuver resulted in a landing with excessive vertical and horizontal velocity, causing a dynamic impact with the ground at the Spadochron landing area near Krosno (EPKR).
The skydiver was transported to a hospital, where medical staff confirmed injuries including a broken right femur and a broken rib.
The investigation
The investigation examined the sequence of the descent and the execution of the landing pattern. The inquiry established that the physical deployment of the parachute equipment functioned as intended, but focused on the pilot's control of the canopy during the final approach to the landing zone.
