What happened
On August 18, 2019, a skydiver performing their third jump of the day arrived at the Kazimierz Biskupi (EPKB) airfield. The jumper, an experienced individual with 2,450 lifetime jumps, was using a Pilot 96 (Aerodyne) parachute with a wingload of 1.7.
The descent and approach proceeded according to plan, and the landing was executed within the designated area and in the direction specified by the jump organizer. However, during the final phase of the landing, the skydiver's right foot caught on a clump of grass, causing the foot to twist outward. Emergency medical services were summoned to the scene, and the skydiver was transported to a hospital, where a lateral fracture of the ankle was diagnosed.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the circumstances surrounding the landing at the airfield and the physical contact between the skydiver and the landing surface.
