What happened
On May 30, 2020, a tandem skydiving jump took place near the Piotrków Trybunalski (EPPT) aerodrome. The passenger, who was performing their first-ever skydive, exited an aircraft at an altitude of 4,000 meters. The jump was performed using a Sigma 370 parachute.
The freefall phase proceeded stably, and the tandem pilot deployed the main canopy at approximately 1,900 meters. The parachute deployment and inflation were completed successfully without issues. However, during the landing phase, the passenger sustained an injury to the right foot, specifically involving the fracture of two metatarsal bones. Following the incident, the passenger was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. The landing occurred within the vicinity of the airfield.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the sequence of events from the initial exit to the moment of impact with the ground. The commission reviewed the flight profile, the deployment of the Sigma 370 canopy, and the physical circumstances of the landing to determine why the injury occurred despite a successful parachute deployment.
