What happened
On July 18, 2020, a student skydiver performed a jump from an altitude of 4,000 meters near the Piotrków Trybunalski (EPPT) airfield. The individual was utilizing a Performance Designs Navigator 280 parachute for their second jump of the year.
The exit from the aircraft was completed without incident, and the freefall phase remained stable. At approximately 1,900 meters, the student deployed the main parachute. However, during the landing phase, the student sustained an open fracture of the left leg. Emergency medical services were summoned to the scene, and the individual was subsequently transported to a hospital for treatment.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the sequence of events from the aircraft exit through the landing process. The PKBWL reviewed the final report provided by the user of the equipment to determine the mechanics of the injury and the stability of the flight profile.
