Lancair IV forced landing in Camden, North Carolina

No fatalities • Camden, NC, United States

A Lancair IV experienced a complete engine power loss during a personal flight, resulting in an emergency landing on a road.

What happened

On April 04, 2026, at approximately 11:55 local time, a Lancair IV, registration N94PT, was performing a personal flight under 14 CFR Part 91 from Hampton Roads Airport (PVG) in Chesapeake, Virginia, to Currituck County Airport (ONX) in Maple, North Carolina.

About 20 minutes into the flight, the pilot noted a slight decrease in engine power. The pilot initially believed the throttle was "creeping" back, a phenomenon previously encountered with this engine. After the pilot restored the previous power setting, the power decreased a second time. Upon attempting to increase the throttle, the engine began running rough, vibrating violently, and producing loud noises before experiencing a complete loss of power.

The pilot identified a road on Scotland Road in Camden, North Carolina, and performed a forced landing. The aircraft landed with its landing gear in the retracted position, causing damage to the lower fuselage, the propeller, and the engine exhaust.

There were no injuries to the pilot or the passenger.
